Initiated in 2014, this collaboration marks the launch of a newly revitalized Artist in Residence program at Stags’ Leap Winery through a multi-year partnership with di Rosa.
Stags’ Leap Winery has been a gathering place and creative retreat for artists from all over the country since its inception in 1893. With the revival of their Artist in Residence program, the winery seeks to pay tribute to its iconic location and focus solely on artists currently living in, or hailing from Northern California. This focus reinforces di Rosa’s long history of supporting and celebrating regional artists. Through the joint residency, Stags’ Leap Winery provides resources and a distinguished living space for artists to research site-specific projects in Napa Valley while di Rosa provides a public exhibition to showcase the artists’ work following their residency.
British-born, San Francisco-based artist Richard T. Walker was the first artist to participate in the Artist in Residence program. Walker resided at the winery’s Napa property in the winter of 2014 while developing the work seen in his solo exhibition at di Rosa, the fallibility of intent (February 7–April 26, 2015).
