Open Call: True North 2024

North Bay artists are invited to submit work to be considered for True North, di Rosa’s biennial juried exhibition. The artwork submission period opens August 2, and closes Tuesday, September 10, or when 1,000 entries are reached, whichever comes first. Artists may submit one artwork for consideration, with an entry fee of $20.

True North is open to submissions from all artists over the age of 18—amateurs and professionals alike—currently living or working in the North Bay, defined as Marin, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties. Submissions will be juried by Lisa Crallé, artist, curator, and Founder & Director of Personal Space in Vallejo, CA; Reniel Del Rosario, artist; and Justin Wyckoff, art conservator and writer. This iteration of True North will be on view November 16, 2024 – February 16, 2025.

Submission Details

Eligibility: Open to all artists currently living or working in the North Bay (Marin, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties) over the age of 18. Amateurs and professionals are all encouraged to apply.

Eligible Artwork: Open to all types of media that meet the following criteria:

  • Wall artwork cannot exceed 50 lbs
  • Sculptural pieces cannot exceed 100 lbs
  • Dimensions cannot exceed 80″ in height
  • Artwork must be original and no older than five years
  • Artists may submit one artwork

Artwork Delivery: Artwork will need to be delivered between November 4 – 6, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Artist is responsible for transporting the artwork to di Rosa and inside the gallery.

All artwork must be ready for installation upon delivery. All framed, wall-hung work must have securing hanging mounts. See two-dimensional media qualifications.

All work must have a label attached to the back of the piece including artist information, title, medium, year, price, and any special installation instructions.

Artwork Installation: di Rosa staff will determine the exhibition layout and hang the artwork.

di Rosa has basic hanging hardware, the artist will need to provide hardware if it is anything beyond hooks. di Rosa has limited pedestals and might not be able to accommodate all needs.

Artwork Pick-Up: All artwork must be picked-up between February 17 – 21, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Sales: Artworks are not required to be for sale. If the artist does wish to offer their work for sale, they must provide contact information for potential buyers. Any transactions will take place solely between artist and buyer; di Rosa will take no part in the facilitation or profit of the sale. Artworks must remain at di Rosa for the entirety of the exhibition period.

Jury Process: Submissions will be juried anonymously and based solely on the merits of the artwork.

Qualifications:

  • Artists must submit a completed form in its entirety by supplying their full name, artwork title, date, media, dimensions (or running time for video) contact email address and any other information outlined in the form.
  • Artworks must be original and no older than five years (created between 2020-2024).
  • Each artist may submit digital imagery for up to one artwork.
  • For two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks, artists must submit a high-quality jpeg of each artwork in its entirety, in focus, and with adequate lighting. High resolution images are preferred. Images must be 72 ppi resolution, and between 1920 px (minimum) and 4600 px (maximum) on longest side. Cell phone jpegs are acceptable if they meet the above image criteria. For time-based media/video artworks, artists must submit a URL to their video and upload a still pulled from the video.


Time-based media/video/digital artworks:

  • Artists must provide a link to their artwork in the submission form.
  • Artist may not include names or credits in their submission and will be rejected if they do as jurying is done anonymously. If their artwork is accepted into True North, artists will be asked to provide a second version with names and credits.
  • Time-based media must be single channel only.

 

Two-Dimensional artwork:

  • All two-dimensional artworks must be wall hanging and should be framed, stretched, or mounted to a board. They must have D-rings, cleats, dowels, grommets, or Velcro attached to the back for hanging.
  • All materials must be completely dry.


Three-Dimensional artwork:

  • Three-dimensional artworks must be seismically stable and able to stand freely without mounts and/or other interventions. To facilitate a smooth and safe installation, artists agree to allow di Rosa staff to secure objects with earthquake wax, tethers, and/or other removable mounting materials.
